Provides sync clients for desktops, tablets and smartphones. Seafile uses a data model similar to git for tracking changes. POWERFOLDER LIKE APPS INSTALLSeafile - Provides a server component you can install on a local machine. ![]() According to the homepage: good for many smaller files, not good for lots of large files such as music or photo collection. SparkleShare - uses git to keep files in sync. edit : OwnCloud has recently gone through some changes in how the project is run, and now has a new fully open source (ie no closed source 'enterprise' edition) under the guise of NextCloud, (see this youtube interview with the original OwnCloud developer for more details). Works similar to Dropbox with a desktop client, but the server is under your control. POWERFOLDER LIKE APPS FULLRuns a full Apache 2 webserver and an SqlLite or MySQL database on the server. OwnCloud - Cloud storage run on your own server. The graphical app/package is called unison-gtk. ![]() It has a nice user interface to allow you to deal with the almost inevitable conflicts, and tracks and propagates deletions correctly. Requires both machines being synchronised to be on at the same time. Unison - as mentioned by others, this is run manually, but is very fast, reliable and effective. Personally I’m using a product with Cloud AV, that way I don’t have to worry about keeping the AV database updated all the time and I won’t have to worry about AV database updates happening at a bad time when I need all the bandwidth/processing power for other things.Īgain I’m not sure what Microsoft means by it though, of course I’d agree that “Cloud” is a buzzword, but it does sound better than “Server-based protection” no?Īctually, I’m running Build 10130 in Vbox and that might be the problem:įaulting application name: NoDefender.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x556ccf0aįaulting module name: VBoxD3D9wddm-x86.dll, version: 4.3.24.0, time stamp: 0x54f47233įaulting application start time: 0x01d0a5ef3142adb6įaulting application path: C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\NoDefender.exeįaulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\VBoxD3D9wddm-x86.Here's a list things that could potentially solve this problem, each balances the trade-offs you have to make differently so you'll have to make your own choices and try things out for yourself: The downside with exclusively using Cloud based AV is no detections if you lose internet connection. That's it.Ī lot of anti-viruses use “Cloud-based protection”, I don’t know what it means for Microsoft but in these other products it means that the AV will get the hash of the files and then check it against the “cloud” servers, the upsides to this is that the cloud is always updated with the latest signatures meaning it can detect malware that has not yet been downloaded to the local AV database, but if you use Cloud AV exclusively then you also don’t need a local AV database with signatures, meaning less space. Using NoDefender, you can re-enable it later if you want. Windows Defender will be disabled in Windows 10. On the Step 2 page, click Disable Windows Defender
